This is an alternate recording i took on 04/26/2014, on microcassette, of an art installation in madison, wi titled "asylum," created by marina kelly and megan katz. This was taken at the same time as the cassette recording i uploaded previously; if asked by kelly or katz i will respectfully take both down. "asylum" was a temporary art installation located in the tenney park passageway under east johnson street. From what i saw when i was there, it was just a speaker or two playing some ambient sounds. These sounds could have been generated based on environmental input, but due to lack of evidence i can't conclusively say that was indeed the case. I was in a bad mood on this recording so apologies for the negativity/language.

In-cabin recording of a qatar airways boeing 787 dreamliner taking off, followed by in-flight announcements in arabic and english. The aircraft applies thrust for take-off at 0:28 and leaves the ground at 1:16. At 3:08 the english in-flight announcement is broadcast. This was recorded in-person from my seat with a tascam dr-40. Moderately flowing stream - jack creek in central oregon's cascade mountains flows out of the ground at the base of three fingered jack mountain. The water comes from a glacier on the mountain a couple of miles from where multiple springs create the large creek bubbling up from the dry ground. This recording was done several hundred feet downstream where the creek was already about 50 wide and only about a foot deep. This is one of the very few canarian permanent waterfalls. It is located in los tilos forest, a biosphere reserve within las nieves natural park in la palma (canary islands, spain). It's about 25 meters tall and flows into a gorge covered by a thick laurel forest (laurisilva), a tropical ecosystem full of trees and ferns resembling jurassic park. A hot summer afternoon in the swedish forest/mountains. Recorded with zoom h5 (xy) outside the cabin i rented. Recording mostly consists of birds and general life from people moving/talking as they arrive to their cabins with family. Its intended to represent a peaceful vibe with some human presence. I decided to not remove much movement/actions from the people such post because i felt it might suck out the soul of the recording. In post: in pro tools i removed some low rumble, and and trimmed the highs just a little bit. Added a "pro expander" to lower some noise, both generated by the h5 and the location. Ps. Recorded using tascam dr-40 and pair of behringer c2 mics c. 10am, sunday march 19, 2017. Location: robin hood way (byway), manor hills - c. 2km south of urban edge worksop, nottinghamshire. Mixed scots pine & larch plantation with beech trees adjacent to trackway. Dry with light breeze. The murmur of the wind in the pines runs through out this recording - ebbing and flowing with the breeze. There is much woodland birdsong. Some other noises of human making can also be hear and interrupt the otherwise peaceful rural ambience. Distant jet aeroplane 0:13truck on nearby road (b6034) 2:43drone of propeller aircraft can also be hear in much of recording - prominent at 2:57, 3:23muffled gunshots 3:04, 3:34, 7:01,7:56clearer gunshot 4:50distant motorbike 8:26 to end.

A recording made around noon on the edge of a woods located right in the middle of a major midwestern university. Throughout this entire recording, you'll hear the everpresent hum of heating and air conditioner units running. You will also hear faint conversations and laughter of students as they walk to class, faint sounds from a nearby construction site, distant rumble of traffic, the distant droning of an airplane lazily floating through the april sky. From time to time you will also hear the well known "beep. . . Beep. . . . . Beep. . . . " of a piece of heavy equipment backing up. However, despite all of the dominating background of man and his machines, nature comes through. Sincei was sitting on the edge of a fairly large woods which sits in the center of all of the concrete and glass and steel, the sweet singing of birds lasts throughout much of this recording. Equipment used: zoom h4n recorder using the internal stereo microphones set on 180 degrees for the greatest sound capture.

This is an example of a low-frequency sound often recorded through the hydrophone on the mars cabled observatory - an earthquake. Mars is located on smooth ridge (36. 7125n, 122. 1869w), west of monterey bay at approximately 900 m depth (http://www. Mbari. Org/at-sea/cabled-observatory/). This magnitude 3. 8 earthquake occurred on july 18, 2016 at 05:53:31 utc (usgs data). It was part of a small earthquake swarm along the san andreas fault, approximately 50 miles east of the hydrophone. All quakes in this swarm, with magnitudes as low as 1. 9, were detected by the hydrophone. We have recorded as many as 40 earthquakes within a single day. The original recording was normalized, and speed was increased 5x to make the low frequency sound more audible. Still, subwoofer or headphones are recommended.

Airplane, atr 72 (at72) flying by towards airfield at 300 m altitude. Atr 72 is a plane much like the dh8d, a twin engined propeller plane. Recorded at a quiet location (maybe only some birds). Observing point: 300 m from the side of the flying route (one has to look up about 45 degrees for the plane). Speed: about 250 to 280 km/h. This is the recording as it is, recorded with zoom h2n music-capable voicerecorder. The mode of the voicerecorder was just the good old ordinary left-right stereo recording (xy) not such things as mid-side or 4 channel etc. No compression used. I may have edited out some sudden bird sounds or beeps from the camera but that's of negigible influence on the sound. There is a slight hiss from a row of trees in the distance. Feel free to use. If you're happy with the recording, it only adds to the fun i already had of it.

Small rocks tumbling down a steep hill. We got in the van and drove down a rural road. On the side of that road, we found land with its topsoil removed, stripped also of its plants, but there were lots of rocks and a small cliff where rocks could tumble down. This audio contains a guitar performance of lily was here song. It was recorded using a fender player telecaster guitar and yamaha audio gram 6 audio interface as recording set up. Tempo: 108. The setup to record this performance and the other ones in the same dataset (five guitar dataset) is explained here: the setup used a yamaha audio gram 6 audio interface and reaper 10 to record guitar from direct input (di), a huawei p30 lite model mar-lx1a to record guitar from a mobile and a dell inspiron 13 5000 to record guitar from a computer. To record acoustic guitar in di, i used a fishman neo d single coin on larrivée and seymour duncan seth love on the eastman connected to a nap-5 stageman floor acoustic preamp going then to the audio interface. The computer and mobile were positioned approximately 3. 8 cm from the player position (measured from the twelve fret of the guitars). The electric guitars were plugged into a dv mark little jazz guitar amp which has a di output, that was connected to the audio interface. The amp was located at a distance of 114. 5 cm from the mobile and the computer.

Shortwave wide-band digital emission recorded on july 15, 2014 at 15:17 utc in am mode using 2 instances of the online remote controllable short-wave receiver located at the amateur radio club etgd at the university of twente the netherlands. Left channel was recorded below the central frequency, at a frequency of 10187khz, right channel was recorded above the central frequency, at 10191khz. This was an experiment to see if selective fading would create stereo effects, as the lower frequency part of the transmission would be heard better in the left channel, and the higher frequency component would be heard better on the right. I used goldwave to put the separate recordings into 2 channels of the same file, after i synched the recordings by ear at 1/16 playback speed using a set of 2 particularly strong lightning static crashes as a guide, trimming off everything that came before the first strike in both original recordings, then inserting silence in the range of a few milliseconds until the stereo separation was as close to zero as i could get it. I wasn't as successful at that as i've been with experiments with voice recordings from simultaneous broadcasts on 2 wavelengths that i haven't posted here.
